September 2013, I arrived to the Baltimore Washington International Airport. Realizing that my flight to Los Angeles, California was only a one-way ticket, I said my good-byes to my family and walked away with all three of my suitcases. I couldn’t believe that I was moving all the way across the country and that my dreams were finally coming true. I woke up and I finally landed in LA. I was in the city of opportunity and dreams. My dreams were to pursue the entertainment and sports industry, along with going to law school.
This month marks my one year anniversary in Los Angeles and I wanted to share my journey and what I’ve learned in the last 365 days.
My Story: As months went on, I interviewed at a few places just in case my internship did not offer me a full-time job. One of the interviews I went on was at Creative Artists Agency (CAA), one of the biggest entertainment and sports agencies in the world. Lets just say, my dream job went down the drain quickly because it wasn’t what I thought it would be. I was highly disappointed, but I didn’t give up. As November approached, my internship converted into a full-time job. Ever since then, my job has offered me countless opportunities and now I get to travel all over: D.C., New York, Arizona, San Diego, and even Hawaii! Nevertheless, I love my job; it’s not in the industry that I wanted to pursue. However, I made the decision to gain the experience and network in the entertainment industry until after law school.
Tips for Working in LA: Moving to LA is a hassle and finding a job in this huge city can be frustrating because of how many people move here daily. Make sure you work somewhere that is convenient to where you live, it will make your life less stressful in regards to traffic.
Conveniently for me, I walk to work from my house, but at first I took the train from Hollywood to Downtown LA. Next, make sure your resume and cover letter is up to par and crafted to fit every position that you apply to. Also, make sure you look everywhere for jobs, even temp agencies. Here are some places where you can find a jobs in LA:
My Story: Once I arrived to LA, I stayed with a friend temporarily in Hollywood, until it was time for me to move downtown to the apartment of my choice. The apartment I chose is conveniently walking distance to my job and has amazing amenities. When I moved out here, I knew that I had to take risks, and that meant finding a roommate. Out of my comfort zone, I found an amazing roommate off of Craigslist who is interested in law also. In the long run, everything worked out perfectly.
Tips for Finding Places to Live in LA: Finding a place to live once moving to LA can be very stressful because a lot of apartments are not advertised online. Also, if you’re looking for a roommate, you can try Craigslist, Roomster, Apartment List, or Roommate Finder. When it comes to looking for an apartment, check out:

My Story: Even though I work and travel a lot, I still manage to take time in exploring Los Angeles. Although I have only lived in LA for a year, I’m still learning new things and meeting new people. I take full advantage of the free movie screenings and movie premieres that go on. The celebrity sightings in LA are endless, you never know who you are going to see. During my first week in LA, I walked past Chris Brown. I was also invited to the Grammys and was able to attend the BET awards. In addition, spent my 4th of July at Kevin Durant’s summerhouse and was blessed with Rihanna’s presence. In June, I was able to take a Warner Brothers Studio Tour and visit Universal Studios. There are all types of concerts, plays, museums, and tons of attractions throughout LA. LA is also a huge place when it comes to food, but you will see that people live to go to the gym here. Make sure when you’re in LA that you venture outside of the city too!
